Now that you’ve decided to pursue engineering, the next big question is, how are you planning to go about it? It is true that there are a plethora of engineering colleges/institutions out there to offer quality education in the field. Although joining a good engineering college is a major step towards a successful career in the field, there are certain things one must do before joining an engineering college.
1. Do your research:
Thoroughly research your field of study to ensure that your interest lies there. It is important to look into the scope of study and career prospects to be completely prepared for what you will be facing in the industry.
2. Brush up your basics:
In a challenging field such as engineering, while it is important to take initiatives and explore new things, it is essential to brush up on your basics. It is good to constantly practise whatever you have studied in your 11th and 12th as it makes understanding certain topics easier.
3. Be curious:
As an engineering student, it is important to develop an inquisitive nature. Do you want to be the kind that only follows the instructions on your textbooks? You can have your own opinion on things and be innovative.
4. Be interactive:
It is important to interact with your professors and seniors, as it will broaden your horizon. You can share ideas with your peers, seniors and lecturers, as they may have some useful suggestions to help develop the ideas further. Also, constantly interacting with people around you helps build your network, which is an added bonus!
5. Add brownie points:
Apart from getting good marks in college, taking up extra certifications, doing internships and participating in various workshops adds brownie points to your CV, which will be extremely helpful after you complete your 4 years in college!
6. Do not give up:
Now that you have decided to pursue engineering, roadblocks are bound to be there on your journey to a successful career. But, you should not give up on something just because you are not good at it. Work hard and focus until you become better at it. After all, practise makes perfection!
